The reason we exist
Pets and Pals is an animal shelter that was founded in 2013. We are a 501(c)(3) Non-profit organization committed to providing a safe haven for abandoned animals and giving them the love and care they deserve. We believe that all animals deserve a chance at life, no matter their circumstance or age, which is why we provide medical care, adoption services, and humane education for humans so that we can live together peacefully. Our goal is to give every animal the best chance of being adopted into a loving family home by investing time with each animal to make sure they are ready for adoption before going into the general population of our shelter. To accomplish this goal, we work hard every day to ensure their needs are met so they can become healthy enough to be adopted out.
Our Mission
At Pets and Pals, we strive to provide a safe place for animals to find loving homes. We are a nonprofit animal shelter that provides stray cats and dogs with food, shelter, and medical care. We also offer low cost spaying and neutering services for pets of low income families.
We rely on donations from the community as well as adoption fees to fund our shelter. To date, we have rescued over 8,000 cats and dogs from the streets of San Jose.

We believe that no animal should be put on death row or euthanized just because they don’t have a home or family.

Our Adoption Process
At Pets and Pals Animal Shelter, we place pets of all shapes, sizes, colors, backgrounds, ages and personalities. We want to find the perfect pet for you! Here is our adoption process:
1) Pet evaluation – All pets are evaluated by staff prior to introduction 2) Introduction – You will be introduced to your potential new best friend 3) Adoption form – Fill out a standard adoption form 4) Proof of ownership – Provide proof of ownership 5) Microchip registration- Microchip your pet with a national registry 6) Spay/neuter contract- sign the spay/neuter contract 7) Payment- make your payment
