Fitness, Health, and Wellness: What’s the Difference?
You’ve probably heard the terms fitness and health used interchangeably before, but are they really the same thing? Fitness focuses on exercise and diet, while health focuses on more than just your physical fitness. It’s important to understand the difference between these three terms because each one has a different meaning and contributes to your overall well-being in different ways. Here’s what you need to know about the three key concepts so you can start focusing on your overall well-being instead of just having an unhealthy obsession with being fit.
The difference between ‘fitness’, ‘health’, and ‘wellness’
Many people make the mistake of thinking that ‘fitness’ and ‘health’ are interchangeable terms. While they both relate to a person’s well-being, they are different. Fitness refers to physical health, while health encompasses a person’s mental wellbeing. The latter is just as important as the former – if not more so – but it can be hard to achieve without first understanding what fitness is about.
When we talk about ‘wellness,’ we’re talking about achieving balance between our mental and physical states. It also includes social aspects of our lives as well as our environments. For example, when you have good relationships with friends and family, this contributes to your overall wellness. A healthy environment means having access to clean air, fresh water and sufficient living space for everyone in your community.
Achieving wellness in these areas will ensure a happier lifestyle for everyone in the community.

Understanding health through nutrition
There are many misconceptions about food, so it is important to know what you are eating. Every person has different needs and restrictions but there are some general guidelines when it comes to health.
*Eat a variety of foods from all five groups (fruit, vegetables, grains, protein sources and dairy products) each day.
*Try to eat more plant-based foods. Plant-based proteins like beans or tofu can provide the same amount of protein that animal products do without all of the saturated fat.
*Remove as many processed foods as possible from your diet because they are typically high in fat or sugar content.
The Need For Exercise
Exercise is just as important as diet when it comes to maintaining your health. It not only improves your physical health but also helps reduce stress and anxiety. Exercise also has a positive impact on mental health by reducing depression. One of the best things about exercise is that it can be tailored to fit your needs. You can choose what type of exercise you want to do; whether it be going for a brisk walk or lifting weights at the gym. It doesn’t matter how much time you have to spare; there are so many different ways you can get started today!
Exercise has been shown in studies to boost moods, improve sleep quality, reduce anxiety, regulate weight, increase life span and even help prevent certain diseases. So why don’t we all exercise more often? Some people might say they simply lack the motivation, while others believe they don’t have enough time in their schedule. But fitness doesn’t need to be boring – there are plenty of fun exercises out there that will give you a good workout while still being enjoyable. Whether you like being active outdoors with running or biking, taking up an exciting new hobby such as rock climbing or joining an indoor class like yoga, chances are there’s something out there for everyone. Whatever your goal may be – weight loss, increased endurance, increased flexibility – anything is possible with a little bit of effort and determination. And if working out sounds like too much work… then try these three simple tips instead
Dealing with Stress
Stress is a part of life, but there are ways to deal with it. When you experience stress, your adrenal glands pump more adrenaline and cortisol into your body. This can make you feel edgy, anxious or even create physical symptoms like high blood pressure. Understand what causes your stress so that you know how to manage it. This will help with both emotional health (anxiety) as well as physical health (high blood pressure). Learn some helpful strategies for managing stress such as exercise and self-care rituals or activities like yoga or meditation. Yoga or meditation are proven methods for reducing chronic stress by building muscle tension tolerance in the brain
The Importance of Sleep
Sleep plays a vital role in maintaining health and fitness. When people don’t get enough sleep they tend to overeat, get less exercise and make poor food choices. While you may be more likely to choose vegetables if they are placed in front of you at dinner time, chances are your intake will be influenced by other factors as well – including when you eat lunch or how many hours of sleep you’ve had during the night. The most effective way for me to increase my daily vegetable intake is by eating them for breakfast – making sure I have a big glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice and incorporating a variety into my cereal or oatmeal.
